mushrooms and onions in port

This side dish is awesome with steak, beef roast, lamb or pork. When I have leftovers (once or twice) I have thrown into a beef stew. Awesome, savory and rich. Ridiculously easy. For some reason at this time, I cannot upload my pictures of this dish. I will try again in the future.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound tightly closed small mushrooms
  • 1/2 pound small white onions (pearl), peeled and trimmed
  • 1/2 stick unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup port
  • 3/4 teaspoon summer savory (i have bought this online when i can't find in regular supermarkets) it is similar to thyme, but more peppery

How To Make mushrooms and onions in port

  • Step 1
    In a skillet cook the mushrooms and the onions in the butter over moderate heat, stirring for 5 minutes.
  • Step 2
    Add the Port, summer savory, salt and pepper to taste and simmer the mixture, covered for 7 minutes or until the onions are just tender.
