My wife Nancy and I found the basis of this soup on another site, now I can't find the other site. We adapted this soup to our no salt soup. Try it. Think you will like it. This version of the recipe is presented by Ben/Mojo's Diner.

Ingredients For slow cooker lentil and ham soup

  • 1 c
    dried lentil
  • 1 c
    chopped celery
  • 1 c
    chopped carrots
  • 1 c
    chopped onions
  • 2 clove
    garlic minced, always put more garlic since you can't get too much, especially if it's fresh
  • 1 1/2 c
    diced cook ham. we cooked ours since we purchase unprocessed ham
  • 1/2 tsp
    dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp
    dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp
    oregano-if yoou like thyme, cheat a little
  • 1 lg
    bay leeaf
  • 1/4 tsp
    black pepper. we use a little more since we like a little kick
  • 32 oz
    chicken broth. use low sodium if you can't get sodium free
  • 1 c
    water
  • 1/4 c
    tomato sauce. use the no sodium added type

How To Make slow cooker lentil and ham soup

    In a 3 1/2 quart or larger slow cooker combine the lentil, celery, carrots,onion, garlic and ham.

    Seson with basil, thyme, oregano,pepper and the bay leaf.

    Stir in the chicken broth, water and tomato sauce.

    Cover cook and on low for 11 hrs.

    Remove the bay leaf before serving. We started on high for an hour at first then turned it down to slow. This way you can cook the soup in about 6 hours. For those of you working or will not be home turn the soup down, go ahead slow cook for 11 hrs.
