Ingredients

  • PAJEON PANCAKES
  • 14 to 20 sticks green onion [scallion] stalks
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon miso paste [fermented soybean paste]
  • 3/4 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • - vegetable oil [for frying]
  • PAJEON SAUCE
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce, dark
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped shallot
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped baby chives
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds

How To Make korean green onion pancakes [pajeon]

  • Step 1
Cut the green section of the scallions into 5" to 6" sections. [Pancakes look more lovely when the stalks are somewhat uniform].
  • Step 2
Prepare the batter by combining the flour, water, miso paste, sugar and salt and whisking until smooth.
  • Step 3
Heat vegetable oil in a skillet. Place onion on hot oil in a square that looks like a "picket fence".
  • Step 4
Pour batter evenly over onions. Fry for a few minutes until bottom of pancake is golden brown. Using a large spatula, carefully flip pancake and repeat process.
  • Step 5
    Serve hot [with Pajeon Sauce]!
  • Step 6
For Pajeon Sauce, simply combine soy sauce, vinegar, honey, shallots, baby chives and sesame seeds. Enjoy!
