My Italian Aunt always made this when she'd come out to Nebraska to her In=laws (who were very German).. It was a request from them.. along with her Italian Spaghetti Sauces;;; She used home-canned green beans or fresh green beans in the summer..also tomatoes...but 60 yrs later, I have substitued the frozen green beans and canned tomatoes...

Ingredients For italian green bean casserole

5 slicebacon, diced

1/2 cgreen onion, diced

1/2 csliced mushrooms

1 lg. candiced tomatoes

1 10 oz pkgfrozen green beans

1/4 tsporegano, dried

1/2 tspsea salt
-
1/2 tsplemon pepper (no salt added)

1/2 cgrated romana cheese
-
1/2 cfresh grated parmisona cheese
How To Make italian green bean casserole

1Brown bacon. add and saute onions and mushrooms, drain off grease..

2Mix together in 2-qt. casserole-- green beans, tomatoes, oregano, salt and lemon pepper, bacon onion and mushrooms..

3Bake at 350 degree oven for 45 minutes.. Sprinkle grated cheese over before serving....
