Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium sweet onion, peeled and chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, divided
- 2 tablespoons all purpose flour
- 1 pint heavy cream
- 1/2 cup blue cheese, crumbled
- 4 cans (14 oz) french cut or regular cut green beans, thoroughly drained
- 1 cup canned french fried onions, chopped
- 1 cup panko bread crumbs
- salt and pepper, to taste
How To Make green bean casserole with blue cheese

Step 1Preheat oven to 400F. Coat a large baking dish with cooking spray.

Step 2Heat olive oil in a large skillet. Add onions and cook over medium heat until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add garlic, cook one minute more.

Step 3Add 1/4 cup butter to pan, melt and stir into onions. Sprinkle flour over butter mixture, stir and cook flour for another 1-2 minutes.

Step 4Slowly stir in heavy cream. Bring to a simmer, add blue cheese and turn off heat. Stir until blue cheese is incorporated. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Step 5Add green beans to skilled and mix until coated. Pour into prepared baking dish.

Step 6In a small bowl, melt remaining butter in microwave. Add chopped french fried onions and breadcrumbs, mix thoroughly. Sprinkle mixture over casserole.

Step 7Bake for 10-15 minutes or until hot and bubbly and topping is nicely browned.
