This German Red Cabbage recipe is so amazing! It is a great side dish that is easy as well as healthy! You'll be surprised by just how good this recipe tastes!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups red cabbage, thinly sliced & about 1 to 2-inch long
  • 1 large apple (such as gala, spartan or mcintosh), peeled, cored and diced
  • 1/4 cup red onions, diced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons brown sugar, such as demerara
  • 1 1/2 ounces organic apple cider vinegar
  • 1 1/2 ounces water
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, or to taste (i always use mixed peppercorns)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

How To Make german red cabbage

  • Step 1
    In a wide saucepan (Wok) over medium heat, add butter and sauté onion, about 2 – 3 minutes. Add apple and sugar; cook for 2 – 3 minutes. Stir in vinegar, water and cabbage; add pepper and cloves.
  • Step 2
    Bring to a boil then reduce heat to low, cover and simmer until cabbage is tender, about 40 minutes.
