In a large skillet put 2 Tsp olive oil let it warm not hot, put your onions in to turn truculent not brown,now put your sliced squash in skillet,cook over med high heat,just till there tender."slowly" This where I add the can of Del Monte Zucchini but before adding it chop it up fine in the can so it is mostly like a heavy sauce,
Add the bacon bits, and garlic powder, stir some till mixed. (cover and watch so it don't brown or burn.)When squash is just tender...remove and put in casserole bowl to fit veggies.put my sliced cherry tomatoes on top now.
