Ingredients

1/4 c
butter
2 large
onions, cut into thin slices
1
loaf french bread
3
ribs celery, sliced thin
1 Tbsp
flour
1
quart beef broth
1/4 c
strong brwed coffee
3 c
shredded swiss cheese
1/4 c
french's fried onions

How to Make French onion casserole

Step-by-Step

  • 1In lg pot, melt butter. Add onions to pot. Reduce heat to medium-low and stirring constantly, cook about 30 mins, or until caramelized.
  • 2Break bread into 1" cubes, set aside. Add celery to onions. Cook until celery is soft. Add flour, cook 5 mins. Heat oven to 350.Stir the broth and coffee into pot.
  • 3Cook 10 mins. Pour mix into a 9" x 13" casserole dish. Top w/ bread cubes. Press the bread into the soup. Cover w/ cheese. Sprinkle w/ french's fried onions. Bake 15 mins. Ladle into bowls.
