Just like the soup, but as a casserole...love it!!

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 large onions, cut into thin slices
  • 1 - loaf french bread
  • 3 - ribs celery, sliced thin
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 - quart beef broth
  • 1/4 cup strong brwed coffee
  • 3 cups shredded swiss cheese
  • 1/4 cup french's fried onions

How To Make french onion casserole

  • Step 1
    In lg pot, melt butter. Add onions to pot. Reduce heat to medium-low and stirring constantly, cook about 30 mins, or until caramelized.
  • Step 2
    Break bread into 1" cubes, set aside. Add celery to onions. Cook until celery is soft. Add flour, cook 5 mins. Heat oven to 350.Stir the broth and coffee into pot.
  • Step 3
    Cook 10 mins. Pour mix into a 9" x 13" casserole dish. Top w/ bread cubes. Press the bread into the soup. Cover w/ cheese. Sprinkle w/ french's fried onions. Bake 15 mins. Ladle into bowls.
