My friend gave me this recipe. When she came to visit for a weekend, I decided to make it for her. She says she has a better recipe, yet, but until she chooses to share it, this is the one I'll use.
I chose to make the patties, and fry them up. I slipped a patty into half a pita, add a little tzadziki sauce, and you have a nummy sandwich! They're easy to make ahead of time, too.

Food Processor

6 c
canned chick peas, drained
red onion, chopped
3 clove
garlic, crushed
3 1/2 oz
whole wheat bread crumbs
2 small
fresh red chilies
1 tsp
ground cumin
1 tsp
ground coriander
1/2 tsp
1 Tbsp
chopped cilantro
egg, beaten
1 c
bread crumbs

1Put chick peas, onion, garlic, bread, chilies, spices, and cilantro in a food processor and process for 30 seconds. Stir and season to taste with salt and pepper.
2Remove mixture from processor and shape into walnut sized balls.
3Place beaten egg in bowl, put bread crumbs on plate. Dip first in egg, then bread crumbs, shaking off excess.
4Heat oil to 350*F. Fry in oil 2 - 3 minutes. Drain and serve. OR, make into patties. Spray cookie sheet. Bake at 350*F for 10 minutes on each side, or until brown.
