bread and butter pickles

This was a recipe my mom and grandmother used to make. They are yummy! I haven't made this yet myself, but I have eaten plenty of them! LOL If you love bread and butter pickles, you will love these, and I was excited to see how easy the recipe is when I found it. Even I can do this! LOL I hope you do too! Enjoy!

Ingredients
- 2 quarts cucumbers, or 16 (4-5 inches long) each, sliced
- 1 1/2 cups salt
- 1 quart boiling water
- 2 cups onion, sliced
- 2 cups green bell peppers, sliced
- 2 cups red or yellow bell peppers, sliced
- 2 cups cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon celery seed
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 teaspoon mustard seed
- 3/4 teaspoon turmeric seed
How To Make bread and butter pickles

Step 1In a large glass bowl, toss cucumber slices with salt. Pour boiling water over and let set overnight.

Step 2Next day: Put on a large pot of water to boil. Use a pot large enough to process jars in.

Step 3Prepare vegetables and combine with remaining ingredients in a large sauce pan. Stir over medium heat until sugar is dissolved. Increase heat and bring to a boil.

Step 4Add cucumbers to mixture and cook gently for five minutes.

Step 5Pack mixture into clean, sterilized jars, remove air bubbles and seal. Process in boiling water for five minutes.
