I got this recipe from a Heloise column back in the 70's! I make it so often. My husband loves these and so do I.

Ingredients

  • 1 can pork and beans
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup catsup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar or splenda
  • 1-2 tablespoon chili powder
  • 2-3 slices bacon, fried crisp and crumbled

How To Make bootlegger beans

  • Step 1
    Fry bacon till crisp, remove from pan and crumble.
  • Step 2
    Add onion and fry till slightly browned
  • Step 3
    Add pork and beans and other ingredients. Cook till somewhat thickened.
  • Step 4
    Add bacon and serve
