Baked beans are one of my favorites, all year round. My mother used to always serve them with meatloaf, which is a very good combination. She made hers in the oven, but I think the slow cooker is the way to go.

Ingredients

navy beans
1 large
onion, sliced
4 clove
garlic, roughly chopped
1
chunk fresh ginger, peeled and grated
4 Tbsp
molasses, or 4-5 tbs. dark brown sugar
3 oz
smoked ham or bacon
2-3
bay leaves
2 tsp
salt
1 pinch
black pepper
1 tsp
dried mustard
1 tsp
dried thyme
1 tsp
dried cumin
1 tsp
cayenne pepper
1/2 c
ketchup
water

How to Make ALL DAY BOSTON BAKED BEANS

Step-by-Step

  • 1Place all the ingredients into a large slow cooker. Pour in water to about 1-1/2 inch above the level of the beans. Mix well.
  • 2Cover and cook on LOW for 6 hours. Add water as needed. Cook an additional 2 to 3 hours.

    If you can't be there to check water level, add more to start with, and cook on LOW for 8-9 hours.
