Baked beans are one of my favorites, all year round. My mother used to always serve them with meatloaf, which is a very good combination. She made hers in the oven, but I think the slow cooker is the way to go. Recipe & photo: justhungry.com

Ingredients

  • 1 pound navy beans
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, roughly chopped
  • 1 - chunk fresh ginger, peeled and grated
  • 4 tablespoons molasses, or 4-5 tbs. dark brown sugar
  • 3 ounces smoked ham or bacon
  • 2-3 - bay leaves
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 pinch black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried mustard
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried cumin
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • - water

How To Make all day boston baked beans

  • Step 1
    Place all the ingredients into a large slow cooker. Pour in water to about 1-1/2 inch above the level of the beans. Mix well.
  • Step 2
    Cover and cook on LOW for 6 hours. Add water as needed. Cook an additional 2 to 3 hours. If you can't be there to check water level, add more to start with, and cook on LOW for 8-9 hours.
