mashed potatoes with turnips-connie's
Found this recipe in mom's old recipe book. Do not know where it originated but,boy!, is it good! This is a basic recipe. Feel free to add cheese, bacon, butter..with what ever you want to experiment in it:) Great recipe for fall and winter. Enjoy!

Ingredients
- 2 - large turnips, peeled and cut into chunks
- 4 - large potatoes, peeled and quartered
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onions
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon white pepper (black pepper will do in a pinch)
How To Make mashed potatoes with turnips-connie's

Step 1Cook turnips, covered, in small amount of boiling salted water for 10 minutes.

Step 2Add potatoes and onion and cook until veggies are tender, 15-20 minutes.

Step 3Drain well.

Step 4Mash veggies with butter, salt and pepper.

Step 5Taste and add more seasoning if desired.

Step 6Serve hot.

Step 7Note: Chill leftover mixture. Shape into 2 1/2 inch patties, using 1/3 cup each. Coat patties with fine dry bread crumbs. Cook patties in butter until lightly brown on both sides, about 4 minutes each side. Almost as good as the original recipe:)
