Ingredients For stove-top baked beans

  • 2 tsp
    olive oil
  • 1 slice
    onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove
    garlic, minced
  • 1 oz
    8 ounce can no salt added tomato sauce
  • 1/4 c
    dark brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp
    tomato paste
  • 1 Tbsp
    white vinegar
  • 1 tsp
    prepared yellow mustard
  • 1/2 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    paprika
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    fresh ground black pepper
  • 15 oz
    1 can navy beans, low sodium, drained and rinsed
  • 1 c
    water

How To Make stove-top baked beans

  • 1
    Heat the oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook, stirring until translucent, 3 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add the tomato sauce, brown sugar, tomato paste, vinegar, mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt and black pepper and whisk to combine. Add the beans and water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium low and simmer until the liquid has thickened slightly, about 30 minutes
