Fresh, homemade applesauce is such a treat. I made several batches this year with Winesap apples from a friend's farm. Yummy!!

  • 8 c
    apples peeled and sliced
  • 1 c
  • 1 Tbsp
    lemon juice
  • 1/2 c
    brown sugar
  • 1 tsp
    ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp
  • 1/4 tsp
  • dash(es)
    vanilla extract

How to Make Homemade Applesauce


  1. place apple slices in large stock pot or dutch oven and cover with water.
  2. add remaining ingredients and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally until apples are soft, approx 25-30 minutes.
  3. blend the mixture in the blender in small batches, until smooth.
  4. place applesauce in airtight containers in refrigerator. This also freezes well.
