Fresh, homemade applesauce is such a treat. I made several batches this year with Winesap apples from a friend's farm. Yummy!!

Ingredients

  • 8 cups apples peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • dash vanilla extract

How To Make homemade applesauce

  • Step 1
    place apple slices in large stock pot or dutch oven and cover with water.
  • Step 2
    add remaining ingredients and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally until apples are soft, approx 25-30 minutes.
  • Step 3
    blend the mixture in the blender in small batches, until smooth.
  • Step 4
    place applesauce in airtight containers in refrigerator. This also freezes well.
