Fran’s Notes: This recipe was one of Grandma Jeanne Miller’s most popular dishes and one I often made for my own family. This dish is also great for holiday buffet dinners and potlucks. The options are my ideas, not Grandma’s! =^..^=

Ingredients For grandma jeanne’s scalloped potatoes

  • 2 Tbsp
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1/8 tsp
    black pepper
  • 4 c
    thinly sliced white potatoes, peeled
  • 1
    small onion, minced
  • 2 Tbsp
    margarine or butter, cut into pieces
  • 1 1/2 c
    milk, scalded (not boiled)

  • some
    ham
  • some
    bacon, fried & crumbled
  • some
    shredded cheese (for au gratin potatoes)

How To Make grandma jeanne’s scalloped potatoes

    Preheat oven to 375°F. Spritz a 2 1/2 qt. baking dish with cooking spray.

    In a small bowl, stir together the flour, salt, & pepper. Set aside.

    Prepare potatoes, mince onion, & scald the milk (using a saucepan or microwave for 45-60 seconds until hot, but not boiling). Slice butter into pieces.

    In the prepared baking dish, make 3 or 4 layers of potato slices, minced onion, flour mixture, and butter pieces.

    Pour hot milk evenly over everything & cover with foil or a lid.

    Bake COVERED for 45 minutes, then UNCOVER and bake ~15 minutes longer until potatoes are browned and fork-tender.

    Serve immediately. Refrigerate leftovers after they are cooled.

    NOTE: This recipe is easy to double. Bake in a 13 X 9” baking dish or large casserole dish. The temperature & time should be about the same. =^..^=
