Asparagus is my favorite vegetable and this time I put one of my favorite ingredients with it, (cream cheese). It is so yummy.

Ingredients

1 lb
fresh asparagus
1 medium
onion chopped
5 Tbsp
butter, divided
2 Tbsp
flour
1 c
milk
3 oz
cream cheese
1 tsp
salt
1/4 tsp
pepper
1/2 c
shredded cheddar cheese
1 c
bread crumbs

Step-By-Step

1Cut asparagus into 1-2 inch pieces. In skillet, sauté asparagus and onion in 1 Tablespoon of butter until tender/crisp. Transfer to a 1 1/2 qt. baking dish.
2In saucepan, melt 2 Tablespoons of butter, add flour and stir until smooth; add milk and cook until thickened and smooth; add cream cheese, salt and pepper. When cream cheese is melted, pour mixture over asparagus and onions.
3Sprinkle with shredded cheese. Melt remaining butter and toss with breadcrumbs. Sprinkle over casserole. Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
