Ingredients For five spice rice (sallye)

  • 1 Tbsp
    sesame oil
  • 1 c
    extra long white rice
  • 1 Tbsp
    chinese five spice powder (make your own link in comments)
  • 1 Tbsp
    finely minced fresh ginger
  • 1/4 c
    dry sherry
  • 1-1/4 c
    chicken broth
  • 1/3 c
    julienned red bell pepper
  • 1/2 c
    chopped scallions (or green onions)
  • 1 c
    frozen english peas & carrots, defrosted
  • 2 Tbsp
    soy sauce
  • chopped zest of 1 lime

How To Make five spice rice (sallye)

    Preheat oven to 350º.

    In a heavy flameproof casserole, heat the oil over medium high heat. Add the rice, five spice powder and ginger and cook for 3 minutes, stirring constantly Add the chicken broth, sherry, and red peppers.

    Cover the casserold with aluminum foil and bake in oven for 30 minutes Remove from oven, stir in the scallion, peas, soy sauce and lime zest. Serve immediatelyl
