Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 cup extra long white rice
  • 1 tablespoon chinese five spice powder (make your own link in comments)
  • 1 tablespoon finely minced fresh ginger
  • 1/4 cup dry sherry
  • 1-1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 1/3 cup julienned red bell pepper
  • 1/2 cup chopped scallions (or green onions)
  • 1 cup frozen english peas & carrots, defrosted
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • - chopped zest of 1 lime

How To Make five spice rice (sallye)

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350º.
  • Step 2
    In a heavy flameproof casserole, heat the oil over medium high heat. Add the rice, five spice powder and ginger and cook for 3 minutes, stirring constantly Add the chicken broth, sherry, and red peppers.
  • Step 3
    Cover the casserold with aluminum foil and bake in oven for 30 minutes Remove from oven, stir in the scallion, peas, soy sauce and lime zest. Serve immediatelyl
