Searching online long enough pays off. I thought I would never find a recipe to duplicate the old fashioned way my mother made those scalloped potatoes I loved so much. Eureka! I think I found it!

Ingredients

  • 4 cups potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • - salt and pepper
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1-1/2 cup milk
  • 1-1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • - paprika

How To Make classic scalloped potatoes

  • Step 1
    Butter a 2qt. baking dish
  • Step 2
    melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat and whisk in flour, then milk to create a white sauce
  • Step 3
    stir in 1 cup of shredded cheese and continue cooking and stirring until cheese melts. Add salt and pepper
  • Step 4
    place half the sliced potatoes in baking dish and pour half the cheese mixture over top. Add the rest of the potatoes and then the sauce
  • Step 5
    top with remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheese and sprinkle with paprika.
  • Step 6
    cover tightly with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until potatoes are tender
