Candied Sweet Potatoes

Debbie Sue

This recipe is a favorite in our family!
I've been making them this way for about 35 years now.
It's also an easy recipe to double or triple, for a Thanksgiving crowd!

You can cook the sweet potatoes early in the day, and prepare the sauce when you are ready! That's usually what I do!

How to Make Candied Sweet Potatoes

  1. Place the sweet potatoes, with skins on, in a large pot and cover with water.
Bring to a boil, cover, reduce heat and simmer for about 30 minutes, until tender.
  2. Drain, and let cool slightly, so you can remove the skins.

Then quarter the potatoes, and set aside.

In a large skillet, melt the butter, and add the rest of the ingredients, stirring constantly until smooth.
    Cook until it's bubbling nicely.
  4. Add the sweet potato quarters to the mixture. Turning occasionally in the sauce after they cook a bit.
Potatoes are ready, when they are glazed on both sides and heated through.
  5. Place in a serving dish, and enjoy!
