This is another sinple, easy and filling side dish. My sweet mother in law fixed this for the grand kids, each time we spent the day on the farm. It is one of our favorites. You can also the following day, add hamburger to it to stretch this into a meal. Can be used to make a Goulash.

  • 1 pkg
    elbo macaroni
  • 2 can(s)
    tomato sauce
  • 1 can(s)
    stewed tomatoes, italian-style
  • 1 qt
    salted water
  • 2 dash(es)
    sugar or sugar subt.
  • 1 1/2
    chopped onion

How to Make Old Fashion Macaroni & Tomatoes


  1. In a sauce pan of water and salt, bring to a boil over high heat.
  2. AS water starts to bubble, add pkg. lg. elbo macaroni.Boil till tender.
  3. Drain off water and replace back in pan on medium heat.
  4. Place chopped onion in micro-wave and cook till tender in a little margarine.
  5. Add all sauces to macaroni and stir.
  6. Next add onion. Let cook for about 10 minutes. Add a tad-bit of sugar to taste. Stir and then serve as a main dish or side.
