This brand new baked macaroni recipe is called Louisiana Cowboy. It's filled with bacon, creole sauteed banana peppers, a sharp cheddar and gouda cheese sauce and crushed barbecue potato chips.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup crumbled cooked bacon
  • 2 cups crushed barbecue potato chips, divided
  • 7 ounces dry elbow macaroni
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • 2 banana peppers, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon creole seasoning
  • 1 packet dry onion soup mix
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons creole mustard mixed with brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon margarine
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 3/4 cup half and half
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded gouda cheese

How To Make louisiana cowboy baked macaroni

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Step 2
    Coat a 2-quart casserole dish with cooking spray. Add crumbled bacon and 1 cup crushed barbecue potato chips; mix well.
  • Step 3
    Cook macaroni according to package directions; drain.
  • Step 4
    Heat canola oil in a large, deep skillet over medium heat. Add sliced banana peppers and saute for 5 minutes until tender.
  • Step 5
    Stir in creole seasoning, onion soup mix, garlic powder and creole mustard/brown sugar. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Step 6
    In a large saucepan, melt margarine over medium heat. Combine heavy cream, milk, cream cheese, half and half and shredded sharp cheddar and gouda cheese; stir together and simmer for 6 minutes until thickened and the cheese melts.
  • Step 7
    Reduced to low heat.
  • Step 8
    Add cooked macaroni and sauteed banana peppers mixture. Mix well until combined. Remove from heat.
  • Step 9
    Spoon evenly into the prepared casserole dish and sprinkle with remaining crushed barbecue potato chips.

    Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
