fried apples and onions

My great grandmother used to serve onions and apples with pork quite often. This is as close as I could get to hers, but she usually used an iron skillet.

Ingredients

  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 6 large cooking apples, unpeeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg

How To Make fried apples and onions

  • Step 1
    Saute the onions in melted butter in a large saucepan over medium heat until tender.
  • Step 2
    Place the apple slices on top of the onions. Combine the brown sugar and the remaining ingredients. Sprinkle over the apple slices. Cover and simmer for 12 to 14 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Uncover and simmer an additional 5 minutes or until the apple slices are tender. Serve with a slotted spoon.
