- 1 can ( 5 - 6 ounces ) white albacore tuna, drained very well. i use a small holed collander and press the tuna till no liquid remains, then flake the tuna
- 1/2 - 3/4 cups shredded swiss cheese
- 1/4 - 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/4 - 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup onion, chopped
- 1/4 cup celery, chopped
- - salt and pepper, however much you like
- 8 slices bread, your choice..i like this on rye, but used italian today
- - butter, softened to spread on the bread
How To Make the best tuna melt - my way
-
Step 1Drain the tuna very well. (this is very important).
-
Step 2In a small bowl; blend all of the ingredients. Except the bread and butter.
-
Step 3Spread about 1/4 to 1/2 cup on 4 slices of bread.
-
Step 4Top with remaining 4 slices of bread. I then take 3 - 4 tablespoons of butter and zap it in the microwave for a few seconds, just long enough to soften to spreadable consistency. Spread each side of the bread.
-
Step 5Over medium heat; on a griddle or I use an iron skillet, brown each side of the sandwich 4 - 5 minutes per side.
-
Step 6These are so good. Sometimes I add a dash of cayenne pepper to them, for an extra kick..
