How many recipes can you name, that call for a packet of ranch seasoning mix? So, you go out to the store, and pick up one of those MSG laden packets that are stuffed with names of chemicals I cannot pronounce and have no worldly idea why they are in there. Okay, here is my recipe for homemade ranch seasoning mix. I changed the proportions of the basic ingredients and added two of my own. Good stuff. So, you ready… Let’s get into the kitchen.

How To Make diy essentials: ranch seasoning mix

  • Step 1
    PREP/PREPARE
  • Step 2
Most recipes for ranch dressing call for more salt; however, they are not taking into account that buttermilk powder contains sodium. So, after calculating the additional sodium in the powder, I reduced the salt from 1 to 1/4 teaspoon.
  • Step 3
Store in a tightly sealed container, away from heat and sunlight, and it will be good for 4 – 6 months (a bit longer, if you store it in the fridge). Assuming it lasts that long.
  • Step 4
As a point of reference, 2 tablespoons of this mix are equal to a single packet of store-bought seasoning.
  • Step 5
The Coleman dry mustard is one of my additions (along with the white pepper). I believe it gives the dressing more flavor depth, and the white pepper, gives it a bit of sweet heat.
  • Step 6
To make ranch dressing add a tablespoon of this mix to 1/3 cup of mayonnaise, and 1/3 cup of whole milk.
  • Step 7
Gather your ingredients (mise en place).
  • So yummy
    Step 8
Add all the ingredients together, and then store, as mentioned above.
  • Step 9
I like to give mine a spin in a miniprep fitted with an S-blade; however, that is really not necessary
  • Step 10
    PLATE/PRESENT
  • So yummy
    Step 11
Use it anywhere the recipe calls for using store-bought ranch seasoning. Enjoy.
  • Stud Muffin
    Step 12
Keep the faith, and keep cooking.
