There are long and short process for canning of pickles. This one is the short process, and much easier.

Ingredients

  • 1 gal
    medium sized cucumbers, cut in 1" chunks
  • 1/2 c
    salt
  • ·
    boiling water
  • 3 c
    granulated sugar
  • 3 c
    apple cider vinegar
  • 1 c
    water
  • 1/2 tsp
    turmeric
  • 1 tsp
    dry mustard
  • 1 tsp
    allspice
  • 1 tsp
    mustard seed
  • 1 tsp
    celery seed

How to Make Sweet Pickles

Step-by-Step

  1. Combine cucumber chunks and salt.
    Place in a large enamel pot, add boiling water to cover.
    Let stand overnight and then drain.
  2. Mix together sugar, vinegar and spices in a big stock pot.
    When it comes to a boil add the pickles and return to the boiling point.
  3. Spoon into hot sterilized jars and seal.
