Fresh Tomato Salsa

I am a fan of fairly straight-forward salsa... nothing too fancy or exotic. This basic recipe packs all the flavor punch you could want. I recently tried adding the oregano and now it's my new "secret" weapon... Give it a try!

4 lb
vine-ripened tomatoes
1/2 c
chopped onion
1 c
fresh cilantro
serrano or jalapeno chiles
2 tsp
minced garlic
1 tsp
3 Tbsp
lime juice
kosher salt and fresh ground black pepper
oregano, dried, to taste

How to Make Fresh Tomato Salsa


  • 1Quarter and seed tomatoes.
  • 2Dice the tomatoes and transfer to a bowl.
  • 3Finely chop onion and cilantro.
  • 4Seed and chop the chiles.
  • 5Stir chiles, onion, cilantro and garlic into tomatoes with sugar and lime juice and season with salt, pepper and oregano.
  • 6Note: For a less chunky texture, try using a food processor or blender... works great!
