fresh tomato salsa

I am a fan of fairly straight-forward salsa... nothing too fancy or exotic. This basic recipe packs all the flavor punch you could want. I recently tried adding the oregano and now it's my new "secret" weapon... Give it a try!

Ingredients

  • 4 pounds vine-ripened tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup fresh cilantro
  • 1 - serrano or jalapeno chiles
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 3 tablespoons lime juice
  • - kosher salt and fresh ground black pepper
  • - oregano, dried, to taste

How To Make fresh tomato salsa

  • Step 1
    Quarter and seed tomatoes.
  • Step 2
    Dice the tomatoes and transfer to a bowl.
  • Step 3
    Finely chop onion and cilantro.
  • Step 4
    Seed and chop the chiles.
  • Step 5
    Stir chiles, onion, cilantro and garlic into tomatoes with sugar and lime juice and season with salt, pepper and oregano.
  • Step 6
    Note: For a less chunky texture, try using a food processor or blender... works great!
