This recipe from Malta is about making your own tomato sauce. What a good way to use up tomatoes.

  • 2 1/4 lb
    ripe tomatoes, with seeds removed
  • 1
    onion, chopped
  • 1/4 c
    basil leaves, finely chopped
  • 1 Tbsp
    olive oil
  • ·
    salt and pepper

How to Make Tomato Sauce


  1. Put olive oil and onions in a pan. Fry.
  2. Put in the tomatoes
  3. Cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Add this mixture to the blender to remove all chunks.
  5. Simmer over low heat for 2 minutes.
  6. Add salt and pepper and cook for another 20 minutes.
  7. Add the basil and cook for another 2 minutes.
