reduced calorie vodka sauce
Inspired by Rocco DiSpirito and the fact that I am living a healthy lifestyle. I have to take certain food items and recipes I love and make them healthy and low calorie. Instead of using heavy whipping cream which is full of fat and calories I used a non-fat plain yogurt. Calories will vary based on which brands you use.

Ingredients
- 1 can 15 oz plain tomato sauce
- 1 can 8 oz plain tomato sauce
- 1 ounce vodka
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 tablespoon dried parsley
- 1 ounce plain vodka
- 1 dash salt and pepper
- 1 cup fresh chopped basil
- 1 cup yogurt, plain and non-fat
How To Make reduced calorie vodka sauce
-
Step 1Open sauce cans and finely chop basil. In a medium sized non-stick saucepan on medium or medium low heat add sauce, vodka, spices, salt and paper. Heat stirring often for about 5 minutes. Feel free to add or reduce the red pepper, salt or pepper depending on taste.
-
Step 2In a measuring cup or medium sized bowl add the cup of yogurt. Remove pan from heat, add 1/2 cup of the tomato sauce to the yogurt and stir until smooth to avoid curdling of the yogurt (tempering).
-
Step 3Once yogurt and 1/2 cup mixture is smooth add it to the sauce in the pan and whisk until smooth. Serve it with your favorite pasta or on top of meats. Each serving is a 1/2 cup and will be approximately 53 calories. This will vary based on the brand you use.
