We use this sauce with anything....from eggs, to chicken, to fish! Also over rice and smoked sausage. Endless possibilities.

Ingredients

  • 2 - onions, chopped
  • 2 medium green bell peppers, chopped
  • 1 cup fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 16 ounces canned tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon dried whole basil
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 large bay leaf
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground thyme
  • 1/4-1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 dash hot sauce

How To Make creole sauce

  • Step 1
    Saute the chopped onion, green pepper, sliced mushrooms, and garlic in butter and oil in a large skillet for 3 to 5 minutes or until the vegetables are tender.
  • Step 2
    Add the tomato sauce and remaining ingredients. Bring the mixture to a boil; cover, reduce heat, and simmer for 20 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Remove and discard the bay leaf. Serve sauce with omelets or scrambled eggs. (Or dish of your choice!)
