We use this sauce with anything....from eggs, to chicken, to fish! Also over rice and smoked sausage. Endless possibilities.

  • 2
    onions, chopped
  • 2 medium
    green bell peppers, chopped
  • 1 c
    fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 clove
    garlic, minced
  • 2 Tbsp
    butter, melted
  • 1 Tbsp
    vegetable oil
  • 16 oz
    canned tomato sauce
  • 1 Tbsp
    dried whole basil
  • 1 Tbsp
  • 1 large
    bay leaf
  • 1/4 tsp
    ground thyme
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp
  • 1 dash(es)
    hot sauce

How to Make Creole Sauce


  1. Saute the chopped onion, green pepper, sliced mushrooms, and garlic in butter and oil in a large skillet for 3 to 5 minutes or until the vegetables are tender.
  2. Add the tomato sauce and remaining ingredients. Bring the mixture to a boil; cover, reduce heat, and simmer for 20 minutes.
  3. Remove and discard the bay leaf. Serve sauce with omelets or scrambled eggs. (Or dish of your choice!)
