savannah's cranberry sauce

Once I started making this cranberry sauce, my family never settled for canned cranberry sauce again. It comes together very quickly and, in a glass jar, keeps in the refrigerator for months. My daughter Savannah always requests a second batch just for her. I use it long past Thanksgiving: on bagels, on sandwiches, on whatever.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 bag fresh cranberries
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest

How To Make savannah's cranberry sauce

  • Step 1
    Bring sugar, water, and orange juice to a boil.
  • Step 2
    Stir in a bag of fresh cranberries. Bring back to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for ten full minutes.
  • Step 3
    Remove from heat. Mix in zest, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Step 4
    Cool and refrigerate.
