persimmon apple butter

I love how apples and persimmons go together. I love apple butter so I figured why not add persimmon to it. This is a simple and easy recipe to make. I tried it with my home made bread and it was amazing. Have about 10 jars ready to give out as gifts for christmas.

Ingredients

  • 8 medium golden delicious apples
  • 2 cups persimmon pulp
  • 2 large oranges zested an juiced
  • 1 large lemon zested and juiced
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg fresh if possible
  • 4-8 ounces canning jars with lids

How To Make persimmon apple butter

  • Step 1
    Wash, peel and dice your apples. Make sure you sterilize your canning jars and have them ready. In a large non reactive pot add diced apples, sugar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, orange zest and juice along with lemon zest. Cook until apples are almost falling apart.
  • Step 2
    In a blender add apple compote and blend until they are pureed. At this time you bring it back to the pot and add persimmon pulp and lemon juice cook for another 3 minutes or so. Turn off heat and add mixture to the sterilized jars. Fill to the top leaving about some space for the top to form a seal. Bring jars to a pot simmering water and simmer until you hear the seal go pop.
