This tuna salad recipe was given to me by a local restaurateur. I loved his version so much that he relented and gave me the recipe. And then I tweaked it with a couple "extras." Revised 03-16-2017

prep time 10 Min
cook time
method Refrigerate/Freeze
yield 6 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 2 cans (5 oz. ea.) solid white albacore tuna
  • 1/3 cup finely chopped celery hearts
  • 1/2 cup hellman's real mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion or 1 tbsp. minced onion
  • 1 teaspoon real lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 dash dill weed

How To Make ellen's "famous" tuna salad

  • Step 1
In a medium size bowl, combine the tuna with the mayonnaise (do NOT use Miracle Whip--it won't taste the same). Mix well, breaking up chunks of tuna.
  • Step 2
Fold in celery, onion, and lemon juice until well blended.
  • Step 3
Add walnuts and dill. Toss. Serve on thick slices of rye or pumpernickel.
  • Step 4
If I'm only making this for myself I cut the recipe in half. It can easily be halved, doubled, or tripled for more people.
