Ingredients

  • 1 medium
    cabbage, shredded
  • 2 medium
    onions, thinly sliced
  • 3/4 c
    sugar (1 of 2)
  • 2 Tbsp
    sugar (2 of 2)
  • 3/4 c
    vinegar
  • 3/4 c
    salad oil
  • 1 tsp
    dry mustard
  • 1 tsp
    celery seed
  • 1 tsp
    sugar
  • 2 tsp
    salt

How to Make German Ice Box Slaw

Step-by-Step

  1. Alternate layers of cabbage and onions in a salad bowl. Sprinkle with sugar.
  2. In a saucepan, combine vinegar, oil, mustard, 1 teaspoon sugar and salt. Heat to boiling.
  3. Pour over slaw and refridgerate for at least 4 hours. Keeps for a week or more. You may add more cabbage as necessary.
