Ingredients

  • 1 medium cabbage, shredded
  • 2 medium onions, thinly sliced
  • 3/4 cup sugar (1 of 2)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (2 of 2)
  • 3/4 cup vinegar
  • 3/4 cup salad oil
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon celery seed
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt

How To Make german ice box slaw

  • Step 1
    Alternate layers of cabbage and onions in a salad bowl. Sprinkle with sugar.
  • Step 2
    In a saucepan, combine vinegar, oil, mustard, 1 teaspoon sugar and salt. Heat to boiling.
  • Step 3
    Pour over slaw and refridgerate for at least 4 hours. Keeps for a week or more. You may add more cabbage as necessary.
