3 c
spring turnips, tops removed and shredded
1/2 small
carrot, peeled and shredded
1/4 c
red bell pepper, seeded and cut into small pieces
1/4 c
red onion, peeled and diced small
2 Tbsp
fresh chives, minced
1/4 c
mayonnaise, or a little more
1 Tbsp
apple cider vinegar
2 Tbsp
salt, to taste
black pepper or white pepper, to taste
1/4-1/2 tsp
cumin seeds, lightly crushed (start with the smaller amount)
fresh cilantro, for garnish

How to Make Spring Turnip Slaw


  • 1In a bowl, combine turnips, carrots, bell pepper, red onion and chives.
  • 2In a separate glass prep bowl or measuring bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt and pepper. I thinned the dressing with a small amount (about 1 T. of milk). Pour over the turnip mixture. Stir well.
  • 3Now stir in the cumin seeds. *Transfer the mixture to a serving platter or bowl. Garnish with fresh cilantro. Cover and chill at several hours for best flavor.
  • 4*If desired, line a serving bowl with spring turnip greens then spoon the slaw over the greens.
