Typically the Russian idea of a salad isn't what we Americans would call a salad. It may be a dish of fruit, or a dish of vegetables--what we might call a side dish. Ingredients For russian cole slaw

  • 5 c
    finely shredded cabbage
  • 2 md
    apples
  • 1 sm
    carrot
  • 1 tsp
    minced onion
  • 1 tsp
    minced dill or parsley
  • 2 Tbsp
    mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp
    sugar
  • 1/2 c
    sour cream

How To Make russian cole slaw

  • 1
    Sprinkle the shredded cabbage with salt and let stand 15 minutes, then scald for 3 minutes. Drain well and dry in a towel.

    Chop the apples very fine or grate them on a coarse grater. Grate the carrot.

    Mix all the ingredients together and let stand 30 minutes on ice (or in refrigerator) before serving.
