A wonderful addition to an Italian meal or any meal for that matter. Also will make a nice light lunch.

Ingredients

  • 1-2 large ripe tomatoes
  • 1 bunch fresh basil
  • 2-3 cloves fresh garlic
  • 1/2 pound buffalo mozzarella or other mozzarella cheese
  • - balsamic vinegar
  • - olive oil, extra virgin

How To Make caprese salad

  • Step 1
Slice tomatoes (not too thin). Next slice same amount of cheese as the amount of tomatoes you sliced. Make the slices of cheese the same thickness as tomatoes. Tear the basil leaves into little pieces. Chop garlic into small pieces (or use a garlic press).
  • Step 2
Layer a slice of tomato then cheese on a platter. Continue to layer the tomatoes and cheese until none are left. Sprinkle the torn basil and chopped garlic over the tomatoes and cheese.
  • Step 3
Drizzle with the olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Let sit a few minutes then serve.
  • Step 4
Note-I like to finely chop my garlic on this salad to give a little more crunch rather than use the garlic press.
