This is especially nice to serve guests on Holidays. Good with pork,ham or poultry... and looks so pretty. I have made this many times, and always get compliments. A friends recipe from 50's or 60's.

Ingredients

2-1/2 cup boiling water
2/3 cup small red hot cinnamon candies
2 - 3-oz pkgs lemon jello
2 cups canned sweetened apple sauce
1 - 8 oz pkg cream cheese
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup chopped nuts, or chopped celery can be added.

How To Make red hot applesauce jello salad

Step 1

Combine boiling water with cinnamon candies in a saucepan, stir over low heat to dissolve candies. remove from heat stir in gelatin. Blend in applesauce. Pour half of mixture into a 2 quart mold or an 8 inch square pan. Chill until firm. Blend softened cream cheese with mayonnaise, add chopped nuts, and or chopped celery. Spread cream cheese mixture over chilled mixture. Pour remaining gelatin mixture over cream cheese mixture. Chill all several hours till firm.
