I used to cook for a school in Northern Wisconsin and this is the French dressing that I made from scratch. "A winner" it soon became and the kids loved it. My son who was a student at the school would sooner drink it, "it's that good mom" he'd say! So here it is, I hope you all enjoy it too. Life is too short to use bottled dressing on your salad. Ummm, sounds like a fine wine to me...

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1/2 c
    vinegar
  • 2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    black pepper
  • 1 small
    onion, grated
  • 2 clove
    garlic, zested
  • 1 c
    vegetable oil
  • 1 can(s)
    8oz. tomato sauce
  • OR 1 CAN OF CONDENSED TOMATO SOUP

  • 1/2 tsp
    chinese mustard powder
  • OR REGULAR MUSTARD POWDER

  • 2 tsp
    worcestershire sauce

How to Make Wonderful French Dressing

Step-by-Step

  1. Place vinegar, onion and garlic in a blender or food processor and puree
  2. Take the remaining ingredients and place into a (1) one qt canning jar, add onion puree and shake until well blended.
  3. Make this dressing a day in advance of serving, the flavors only get better with age. This keeps 2 weeks in the fridge.
