A near death experience for my poor dutch oven (thanks to hubby!) brought back from the brink of death by Me!!

Ingredients

  • 1 medium dutch oven
  • 2-4 tablespoons crisco all vegetable shortening
  • 1 - 400* oven

How To Make almost dead dutch oven saved!!!

  • Step 1
    Place aluminum foil in bottom rack of oven to catch drippings. Heat oven to 400* First wash your dutch oven in hot soapy water and a scrub brush as clean as you can get it!
  • Step 2
    Then dry completely. Slather with a good coat of crisco pure vegetable oil inside and outside. Place dutch oven in oven upside down for 1 hour.
  • Step 3
    turn oven off and let dutch oven cool to room tempurature. Repeat vegetable oil and cooking if not shiney black yet!
  • Step 4
    This particular Dutch oven I planned on doing 3 rounds in the oven, however I was able to save her with only 2 rounds! And the Hubby didn't have to pay for a new one!! NOTE- DO NOT LET YOUR HUSBAND USE YOUR CAST IRON FOR MECHANICAL STUFF!!!!
