This dressing has all the ingredients needed to make a great savory side dish or to stuff a 12-14 pound turkey. You can add or subtract ingredients you wish- to make it your own.

Ingredients

  • 3 quarts coarse day old bread crumbs
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups diced onion
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped celery
  • 1 cup chopped mushrooms
  • 2 cups fresh chopped cranberries or raisins
  • 1 cup cooked and crumbled sausage
  • 1/2 cup broth
  • 1/2 cup chopped almonds
  • 1/3 cup kahlua, or apple cider
  • 1/4 cup fresh chopped parsley
  • 2 teaspoons dried thyme, crushed
  • 2 teaspoons grated orange rind
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1 teaspoon rubbed sage
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

How To Make savory stuffing

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350^. Bake bread crumbs for 5 minutes. Stir. Continue baking 5 minutes longer until lightly toasted. Remove from oven. Place in a large bowl. In a large skillet. melt butter. Add vegetables sauté lightly. Remove from heat; add balance of ingredients. Pour over bread crumbs. Toss to moisten evenly, adding additional broth if necessary, Stuff turkey. or place mixture in 3 quart buttered casserole dish. Bake for 25-30 minutes just to heat thoroughly.
