canola oil
1 lb
smoked turkey kielbasa, cut into 1/2"-pieces
1 c
chopped onion
1/2 c
chopped green bell pepper
1/2 c
chopped red bell pepper
1/2 c
chopped celery
1/4 tsp
garlic powder
2
bay leaves
1 tsp
dried thyme
1
14.5 oz can stewed tomatoes
1 tsp
seasoned salt
2
15 oz cans red kidney beans, drained
1 c
uncooked white rice
2 c
water
1 Tbsp
hot pepper sauce or to taste

How to Make red beans and rice w/ kielbasa

Step-by-Step

  • 1In a 4-quart saucepan, heat oil over medium heat. Add kielbasa, onions, peppers, celery, garlic powder, bay leaves and thyme. Cook 6 mins, stirring until veggies are tender.
  • 2Stir in tomatoes and seasoned salt. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer 20 min, stirring occasionally. Stir in beans, cover and simmer 10 min.
  • 3Cook rice in water as directed. Remove bay leaves from bean mix. Serve bean mix over rice.Serve w/ hot pepper sauce.
