low fat/low carb greek stuffed burger
This is my healthy version of my greek stuffed burger. It's just as tasty but alot less fat and calories. Some of my changes were: ground beef/lamb...ground turkey feta cheese...fat free feta greek yogurt...fat free greek yogurt caramelized onions...grilled onions I'm revising some of my favorite recipes so that they will be healthier. Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds ground turkey
- 2 tablespoons parsley, chopped
- 1 tablespoon oregano, dried
- 2 tablespoons fresh mint chopped
- 1 teaspoon thyme, dried
- 1 small onion, grated
- 3 large garlic cloves, minced
- 1 medium lemon juice
- 1 medium lemon zest, grated
- 1 teaspoon crushed pepper flakes
- 4 ounces feta cheese, fat free
- 1 large onion, sliced
- - salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, extra virgin
- - fat free extra virgin olive oil spray/for grill
- TZATZIKI SAUCE
- 8 ounces greek yogurt, fat free
- 1 small kirby cucumber, grated and drained
- 1 teaspoon dill, dried
- 2 medium garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh mint, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon red wine vinegar
- - salt and pepper to taste
How To Make low fat/low carb greek stuffed burger

Step 1Mix and chill tzatziki sauce for at 30 minutes

Step 2In a large bowl add turkey and the next 9 ingredients. Mix well.

Step 3Make 8 (3)inch patties. On 4 patties add 1 oz of feta cheese. Top the 4 patties with the other 4 patties. Pinch the sides to make 4 burgers.

Step 4Lightly brush onion slices with oil and season with a little salt and pepper. Lightly brush a little oil on both sides of the burger to prevent sticking.

Step 5Spray grill grates with oil. Heat grill to medium high temperture. Add burgers and onion slices

Step 6Grill burgers and onions about 5-6 minutes on each side or until done.

Step 7Top your burgers with the cool and refreshing tzatziki sauc, grilled onions and chunks of tomato.
