A rich mushroom and onion pie. Serve with a green salad. No Hobbits were harmed in the making of this recipe.

refrigerated pie crusts, unbaked
3 Tbsp
olive oil
1 1/2 lb
button mushrooms, sliced
2 c
finely chopped onion
1/3 c
all purpose flour
1/2 c
stout beer
eggs, beaten
1 1/2 c
grated cheddar cheese, sharp
1 c
cottage cheese, small curd
1/4 c
fresh parsley, chopped
salt and pepper, to taste

How to Make Hobbit Pie


  • 1Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  • 2Line a 9-inch deep dish pie pan with one crust.
  • 3Heat oil in large frying pan and saute mushrooms until they start to soften. Add onions and cook over medium heat until onions are translucent.
  • 4Remove from heat and add flour and beer, mixing well.
  • 5Add remaining ingredients and season with salt and pepper.
  • 6Pour in bottom crust and top with second crust. Crimp edges to seal and cut two slits in top to vent.
  • 7Bake 40-45 minutes, or until crust is golden brown.
    Let cool a few minutes and slice.
