You got a warm, lazy Summer day, you got beer, you got smoked sausages… what could go wrong? I am making these for my party-by-the-pond night. Well, not exactly a party; just some friends getting together on a Sunday evening, kicking back and having some food and “adult” beverages. So, you ready… Let’s get into the kitchen.

Ingredients

  • PLAN/PURCHASE
  • 6 - smoked sausages, i prefer johnsonville
  • 2 tablespoons sweet butter, unsalted
  • 1 tablespoon grapeseed oil
  • 1 tablespoon coconut sugar
  • 1 tablespoon brown mustard, i prefer, grey poupon
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard, i prefer, woodstock organic
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons caraway seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, kosher variety
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper, freshly ground
  • 1 - bottle of light beer
  • ADDITIONAL ITEMS
  • - hot dog buns, hoagie rolls, sliced bread, or whatever you choose to place them on.
  • - various condiments (mustard, ketchup, etc.)
  • - chili mmmm

How To Make summertime essentials:beer-braised smoked sausages

  • Step 1
    PREP/PREPARE
  • Step 2
    Gather your Ingredients (mise en place).
  • Step 3
    Add the smoked sausages to a dry pan over medium-high heat.
  • Step 4
    Cook the sausages until they begin to brown, about 4 – 5 minutes.
  • Step 5
    Add the remainder of the ingredients to the pan.
  • Step 6
    Reduce the heat, and bring the pan to a light simmer.
  • Step 7
    Cover and continue to simmer for 2 hours.
  • Step 8
    PLATE/PRESENT
  • Step 9
    Place one of the sausages, and some of the onions on a bun, hoagie, or slice of bread, and top with your favorite condiments… and maybe some chili. Enjoy.
  • Step 10
    Keep the faith, and keep cooking.
