sandwich essentials: meatball/mozzarella sub

This is a down-and-dirty way to make a tasty meatball sub. It starts with a quick tomato sauce, assembly, and then a pop under the broiler. It is 30 swift minutes from kitchen to table. So, you ready… Let’s get into the kitchen.

Ingredients For sandwich essentials: meatball/mozzarella sub

  • PLAN/PURCHASE
  • 8 oz
    tomato sauce (1 small can)
  • 1/4 c
    grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 Tbsp
    apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp
    dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp
    dried basil
  • 1 pinch
    onion powder, or to taste
  • 1 pinch
    salt, kosher variety, or to taste
  • 4 - 6
    homemade meatballs, more on this later
  • 1 md
    french baguette, freshly baked
  • 2 oz
    mozzarella cheese, freshly shredded

    Gather your Ingredients (mise en place).

    Add the tomato sauce, grated Parmesan cheese, oregano, basil, onion powder, and vinegar into a small saucepan, over medium heat.

    Bring the sauce up to a light simmer, and then add the meatballs.

    Reduce heat to medium low, cover the saucepan, and allow the meatballs to cook in the sauce at a very light simmer, for 15 – 20 minutes.

    Add a generous portion of sauce to the cut sides of the French baguette.

    Line up the meatballs on the bottom half.

    Cover the meatballs with the mozzarella, and then sprinkle some on the top portion of the baguette.

    Pop under the broiler until the cheese melts, and gets bubbly, about 1 or 2 minutes.
