Another title for this might be: Fun Things to do with an English Muffin. Here we are taking an English muffin, and not making a pizza, but a pizza sandwich. The ingredients are mine; however, you could add anything you like… just don’t make it too sloppy, or it will be hard to eat. So, you ready… Let’s get into the kitchen.

Ingredients

  • PLAN/PURCHASE
  • 1 - english muffin, cut in half
  • 2 ounces pizza or pasta sauce
  • 1 ounce mozzarella, freshly shredded
  • 1 ounce colby or sharp cheddar, freshly shredded
  • 1 ounce italian sausage, hot or mild, your choice
  • 4 - 6 - pepperoni slices
  • 1 large thick slice of tomato
  • 2 - pieces of fresh, crispy lettuce

How To Make sandwich essentials: english muffin pizza sandwich

  • Step 1
    PREP/PREPARE
  • Step 2
    Gather your Ingredients (mise en place).
  • Step 3
    Add the Italian sausage to a sauté pan over medium heat.
  • Step 4
    Cook, breaking up with a wooden spoon, until cooked through.
  • Step 5
    Remove from pan, drain on paper towels, and reserve.
  • Step 6
    Place a rack in the middle position, and preheat the oven to 425f (220c).
  • Step 7
    Toast the bun, and lay the two pieces on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

    Add the tomato sauce to the bottom half.

    Add the Italian sausage.
  • Step 10
    Add the mozzarella cheese.

    Add the pepperoni.
  • Step 12
    Add the other cheese to the top half.

    Chef’s Note: I also added a slice of Canadian bacon to mine. Can you say: Meat Lovers.

    Slide into the oven, and bake until the cheese melts, and begins to bubble.

    Add the lettuce, and the tomato slice.

    Chef’s Tip: A lot of things are playing out when we eat our food: smells, textures, flavors, and even temperature. You might ask why I didn’t cook the tomato slice with the sandwich, and the answer is that I wanted layers of flavor, and layers of temperature. Things as simple as varying the temperature of your combined ingredients, can make or break a recipe.
