sandwich essentials: baked pork & ham sammie
When I started making these for Sunday brunch, they were supposed to be Cubano sandwiches; however, the mad scientist took over, I made a few wee changes, and this is the end result. At least everyone liked them. So, you ready… Let’s get into the kitchen.

Ingredients
- PLAN/PURCHASE
- THE AVOCADO SPREAD
- 1 medium hass avocado, ripe
- 1 tablespoon sour cream, or mayonnaise, i used mayo
- 1 tablespoon lime juice, freshly squeezed
- 1/4 teaspoon salt, kosher variety, or to taste
- 1 - 2 pinches ground cumin, or to taste
- THE SAMMIE
- 2 slices sourdough bread
- 2 - 3 ounces oven-baked pork, chopped
- 1 slice honey-baked ham, or your own choice of ham
- 2 slices swiss cheese
- OPTIONAL ITEMS
- chips or fries
- tomato, thinly sliced
- lettuce
- dill pickle

Step 1PREP/PREPARE

Step 2I made these sandwiches the other day (Sunday, to be exact), for a small gathering. The problem is that I did not take any photos, so this morning, I made a half of one, for the purpose of taking photos. It was my 3:30a breakfast. So, although the recipe ingredients are for a whole sandwich, the photos only show a half of one… Still tasted yummy.

Step 3Gather your ingredients (mise en place).

Step 4Place a rack in the upper-middle position and preheat oven to 350f (175c).

Step 5Mix the avocado spread ingredients together in a small bowl.

Step 6Toast the bread, then spread the avocado spread on one side of each piece.

Step 7Layer the ingredients on one slice as follows: • Pork • Slice of Swiss cheese • Ham • Slice of Swiss cheese

Step 8Place into the preheated oven, and bake until warmed through, and the cheese is nice and melty, about 15 – 18 minutes.

Step 9PLATE/PRESENT

Step 10Place the other slice of toasted bread on top, and serve with chips, tomato, dill pickle, whatever you have a hankering for. Enjoy.
