When I started making these for Sunday brunch, they were supposed to be Cubano sandwiches; however, the mad scientist took over, I made a few wee changes, and this is the end result. At least everyone liked them. So, you ready… Let’s get into the kitchen.

Ingredients For sandwich essentials: baked pork & ham sammie

  • PLAN/PURCHASE
  • THE AVOCADO SPREAD
  • 1 md
    hass avocado, ripe
  • 1 Tbsp
    sour cream, or mayonnaise, i used mayo
  • 1 Tbsp
    lime juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt, kosher variety, or to taste
  • 1 - 2 pinch
    ground cumin, or to taste
  • THE SAMMIE
  • 2 slice
    sourdough bread
  • 2 - 3 oz
    oven-baked pork, chopped
  • 1 slice
    honey-baked ham, or your own choice of ham
  • 2 slice
    swiss cheese
  • OPTIONAL ITEMS
  • chips or fries
  • tomato, thinly sliced
  • lettuce
  • dill pickle

    I made these sandwiches the other day (Sunday, to be exact), for a small gathering. The problem is that I did not take any photos, so this morning, I made a half of one, for the purpose of taking photos. It was my 3:30a breakfast. So, although the recipe ingredients are for a whole sandwich, the photos only show a half of one… Still tasted yummy.

    Gather your ingredients (mise en place).

    Place a rack in the upper-middle position and preheat oven to 350f (175c).
  • 5
    Mix the avocado spread ingredients together in a small bowl.
  • 6
    Toast the bread, then spread the avocado spread on one side of each piece.

    Layer the ingredients on one slice as follows: • Pork • Slice of Swiss cheese • Ham • Slice of Swiss cheese

    Place into the preheated oven, and bake until warmed through, and the cheese is nice and melty, about 15 – 18 minutes.

    Place the other slice of toasted bread on top, and serve with chips, tomato, dill pickle, whatever you have a hankering for. Enjoy.
