This is my dish when I want Popeyes Dirty Rice and Fried Chicken with biscuits homegrown if you will. I got as close to making it like My mama's that I could hope you like it as much as we do.

  • 2 Tbsp
    canola oil
  • 5
    cloves of garlic
  • 1 medium
    onion, yellow
  • 1/2 c
    diced celery
  • 1 lb
    ground beef or ground turkey
  • 2 Tbsp
    diced jalapenos
  • 2 Tbsp
    cayenne pepper
  • 1 1/2 c
    rice, long grain
  • 3 c
    chicken broth, low salt
  • 2 tsp
    pepper or pepper blend
  • 1 c
    sliced green onions
  • ·
    accent, your choice
  • 1 lb
    spicy italian sausage, regular or turkey

How to Make Spicy Dirty Rice, Iris's


  1. Heat oil in large nonstick frying pan over medium heat. add aromatics, stir to blend. Keep stirring until veggies are soft and garlic is golden. Add ground beef or turkey and Italian sausage, breaking up with a spoon continue to cook about 10 minutes or until meat is nicely browned. add peppers and adjust seasonings.
  2. Stir in rice a nd add broth and bring to a boil. Lower hear, cover and simmer 25-30 minutes or until most of the liquid is absorbed and rice is tender. Remover from heat, taste adjust seasonings, stir in green onions and serve hot.
