Trying to find creative ways to use up this large ham I got on sale. This was a good choice, I think.

I served it with a mixture of sweet and golden Yukon potatoes mashed together, sautéed spinach, steamed sweet corn and beer bread muffins. Mmm, good!

Ingredients

4 slice
ham steak
1 Tbsp
olive oil

MUSTARD SAUCE

1 Tbsp
butter
1 Tbsp
all purpose flour
1 c
half and half milk
1 pinch
sea salt
1to 2 Tbsp
whole grain mustard
1 pinch
ground black pepper
1 pinch
chopped fresh cilantro
1 pinch
chopped chives

How to Make HAM STEAKS WITH MUSTARD SAUCE (SALLYE)

Step-by-Step

  • 1Place heavy skillet over medium high heat and add olive oil

    When oil is shimmering, add the ham steaks and cook about 15 minutes until lightly browned, turning once.
  • 2While ham is cooking, make the sauce.
  • 3Place heavy saucepan over medium heat and melt the butter.

    Add the flour, salt and pepper and stir continually with wooden spoon until a light roux is formed.

    Gradually add the milk, continuing to stir until liquid is smooth and creamy.
  • 4Turn heat down to a simmer and continue cooking sauce until it thickens.

    Remove from heat and stir in the mustard until well blended.
  • 5Place ham steaks on serving dish, ladle the mustard sauce equally over each slice.

    Garnish with cilantro and chives.
  • 6Good complimentary sides dishes are roasted vegetables, green salad and hot bread.
