ham steaks with mustard sauce (sallye)
Trying to find creative ways to use up this large ham I got on sale. This was a good choice, I think. I served it with a mixture of sweet and golden Yukon potatoes mashed together, sautéed spinach, steamed sweet corn and beer bread muffins. Mmm, good!

Ingredients
- 4 slices ham steak
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- MUSTARD SAUCE
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon all purpose flour
- 1 cup half and half milk
- 1 pinch sea salt
- 1to 2 tablespoons whole grain mustard
- 1 pinch ground black pepper
- 1 pinch chopped fresh cilantro
- 1 pinch chopped chives
How To Make ham steaks with mustard sauce (sallye)

Step 1Place heavy skillet over medium high heat and add olive oil When oil is shimmering, add the ham steaks and cook about 15 minutes until lightly browned, turning once.

Step 2While ham is cooking, make the sauce.

Step 3Place heavy saucepan over medium heat and melt the butter. Add the flour, salt and pepper and stir continually with wooden spoon until a light roux is formed. Gradually add the milk, continuing to stir until liquid is smooth and creamy.

Step 4Turn heat down to a simmer and continue cooking sauce until it thickens. Remove from heat and stir in the mustard until well blended.

Step 5Place ham steaks on serving dish, ladle the mustard sauce equally over each slice. Garnish with cilantro and chives.

Step 6Good complimentary sides dishes are roasted vegetables, green salad and hot bread.
